Stephen Tufft

Receptionist

For many visitors arriving at our hospitals, their first port of call is with one of our friendly receptionists. Whether you're looking for directions, reporting an incident, making an enquiry, or just saying hello, the LTHT receptionists are the multi-talented people dealing with every sort of eventuality.

“I can honestly say I love getting up in the morning and going to work,” said Stephen. “It's Wharfedale that makes the job what it is. We're only a small hospital, but because of this we all know each other and work towards a shared goal of achieving excellent patient care. We're very team-spirited and friendly, and it makes coming to work each day a pleasure. I think it's the same reason why a lot of patients make Wharfedale their hospital of choice.”

“In my job, it's the everyday things that matter most: meeting and greeting with a smile and providing the best first impression for arriving patients,” he explained. “When I see those same patients leaving with a friendly wave and a thank you, then I know their experience has been a good one. I'm the first to welcome them in and often the last to say goodbye. It's very satisfying to see patients leaving happy, for me, that's what it's all about.”

“My role has changed a lot since I first started,” explained Stephen. “As well as providing clerical support to the management team and Heads of Departments when required, I sort through the post, manage the electronic diary, co-ordinate meeting room bookings, facilitate corridor sales and a whole lot more. It's a very varied job and no day is the same.”

“I'm definitely a people person - I'm friendly and always ready to help. I see myself as a frontline PR officer for the Trust, so I'm always careful about maintaining a positive image and making a good first impression,” he said. “I started out in a nursing role at Chapel Allerton, so when I started my job at Wharfedale I had to adapt to a whole new skillset of clerical work. I've become much more organised as a result."
