    • Except for very senior managers and medical staff, all staff are paid under the national Agenda for Change terms and conditions. Pay determination is underpinned by a robust job evaluation scheme which applies in full to all staff across the UK who are employed directly by NHS organisations.
    • Payments are also made for work done out of hours, overtime etc.
    • Generous annual leave entitlement with 27 days plus Bank Holidays for staff who are new to the NHS.
    • The NHS Pension Scheme is one of the most generous schemes available.
    • In addition to the annual leave provisions, the Trust operates a Special Leave Policy, which assists staff in balancing home and work life with support for caring responsibilities, bereavement and time off for Public Duties.
    • Chaplaincy Service – is available to everyone of whatever faith or belief and whilst being a member of the Trust is also someone who can listen informally, standing outside a particular situation. Prayer and quiet room facilities are available on each site.
    • The Trust has excellent relationships with a number of companies offering a range of discounts and cash back opportunities. This includes a wide variety of retail outlets, including several supermarkets and holiday companies.
    • A number of services are available through payroll deduction e.g. Simply Health cash plans for optical, dental and other therapies – physiotherapy, podiatry etc. Ace Insurance for personal accident cover and Leeds City Credit Union.
    • Interest free loans are also available for the purchase of annual travel cards, which are also discounted when paid for through salary deduction over a 10 month period.
    • The Trust works in partnership with Trade Unions, some having offices on site with accessible resources and information for staff. Trade Union subscriptions can be deducted directly from your pay if desired.
  • Support for Parents and Carers

    • Maternity and paternity benefits are generous with extended leave and occupational pay in addition to statutory entitlements.
    • Monthly workshops are held for prospective parents with information and advice on childcare options and signposting to financial support that may be accessible.
    • On-site nurseries are available on the St James's university hospital and Leeds General infirmary sites catering for children from 3 months to school age. Places are offered on a full or part-time basis and a waiting list is operated.
    • The Employee Care Services Team offers free, confidential and impartial advice for parents and carers and can undertake detailed childcare searches on your behalf to locate child-minders, nurseries, out of school clubs and holiday play schemes.

    Salary sacrifice schemes are in place for a number of the Trust’s benefits enabling savings on tax and national insurance. These include:

  • Health and Wellbeing

    • The Trust has an in-house Counselling Service which is able to offer support to staff experiencing difficulties either at home or work.
    • There are fully equipped gym facilities at the LGI and St Jame’s with qualified staff, and changing / shower facilities. The gyms are open from 6.00am to 10.00 pm 7 days a week.
    • A range of activities are offered including Touch Rugby, running groups, walking routes with access to pedometers and walking packs.
    • Exercise classes are run at SJUH both at lunchtimes and some evenings.
    • A beauty therapist runs a weekly session at SJUH and offers beauty treatments and alternative therapies including Reiki and massage.
  • Parking and Travel

    • The Trust has some car parking available but it can be limited, additional parking facilities are available at a number of onsite and offsite locations and charges do apply.
    • Interest free loans are also available for the purchase of annual metro cards, which are also discounted when paid for through salary deduction over a 10 month period annually.
    • There are cycle storage facilities available at most of our sites.
